Real Virtual City

Media City is an industrial complex designed by GAD conceived as part of Istanbul’s new airport completed at the end of 2018. Responding to a commission from the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce to design a site supporting Istanbul’s multimedia, publishing and printing industry, GAD felt it was important to not only make a self-sufficient, sustainable city but to also create a dynamic, intriguing cultural attraction with innovative, interactive planning and structures echoing developments in technology. GAD’s design for Media City proposes a network system of buildings, parks, streets, etc. that could be repeated, manipulated, adjusted, and organized in grids similar to software paradigm used in QR codes. The plan brings together the physical and digital world, joining content and publishing with a new idea for post-industrial city life.
